The AliExpress Experiment Bow... and an "Angry Rant?"
Here's the link to Historical Archery's Video that inspired me. It is an interesting channel and he has a lot of videos to check out. Everyone go to his channel and check him out!

Also, let me know what you think about people "ripping off" my videos by taking my work and remaking it on their channel(s). Some are far more (ridiculously) blatant than others and don't even try to make something original. Also they can't even be bothered to give a little credit my way. How to make a bow from a stave, Part 8: Made it pretty = Final Product
Просмотров 7 тыс.6 лет назад
Apologies! I sorta forgot that I was going to do a final follow-up video. The bow was basically done in the last video, all I did afterward was add the sturgeon skins, wrap the tips, spray-seal with polyurethane and add a leather grip = making it pretty. I f you have any questions about those steps please ask in the comments section and I will direct you to the video where I share the process. ...

How to Make a Bow from a Stave, Part 5: Backing with rawhide
Просмотров 9 тыс.7 лет назад
Putting rawhide on the back of a bow will change the amount of stress the single growth ring "back" will have to undergo. This prevents the bow from failing under the elastic pressure of the draw and also helps to prevent the lifting of any portion of the back of the bow. It can increase the draw weight but not to the point of adding reflex to the bow as would sinew.

Making what I like to call my Boarrior Bow. Basically it is an Ed Scott inspired version of his famous Owl Bow or a modified version of an ancient holmegaard bow with the static limbs reflexed for extra power and smoothness of draw. Thanks to T&C Howell for the stave!!!

    Great bow. So question. Do you feel that a cable backed bow could give the same draw feel as a penobscot bow? Or does the extra limbs give release that tension to make it feel lighter than it actually is?

    What if you want to use snake skin on belts/shoes? Do you need to prep the skin? Glue the skin on something first? Prep the area in a certain way?

    • @BoarriorBows
      @BoarriorBows 6 месяцев назад

      Most snake skins I use are quite thin (rattlesnakes, copperheads) and will require a backing material. The large pythons may not need to be glued to something else depending on what is being made, how large the original skin was and how well the tanning process was completed.

    What would be the best way to wall mount one of these? I have one but not really sure, the slanted back horns force it away from the wall pretty far. I looked at the game and antler mounts but I’m not sure they will work either. I’m leaning toward a euro type.

    • @BoarriorBows
      @BoarriorBows 8 месяцев назад

      There are mounting "hooks" specifically for European Mounts, which is what I use. Just find one of length that will account for the distance the curl may displace. I've seen some at BassPro/Cabela's but I'm confident you could find something online from eBay or the like.

    Great tip. Thanks. I always have some twist. Can I heat up a bamboo back IPE wood bow with ES-40 epoxy? Will the heat separate the two pieces of wood. I think your way of oil and dry heat will do. But steam might separate the bow?

    • @BoarriorBows
      @BoarriorBows Год назад

      Heat is a concern with separation/delamination for sure when it comes to laminated bows. I would try something at lower temperature. I "untwist" a lot of modern laminated bows by using hot water from the tap (as hot as you can tolerate on your skin but no hotter), while holding/twisting the bow limb back the way I want it. Then, after a minute or two, I have someone switch the tap to full cold and continue to hold the bow in the corrected position for another minute to two minutes while to material rapidly cools off. This works wonders with fiberglass backed/bellied wood bows that have been stored inappropriately and developed mild to severe limb twist. On an all wood/bamboo bow that has not yet been sealed I'd try wrapping the area where the water will contact with a couple wraps of shrink wrap to keep the area from actually getting wet. The water shouldn't be hot enough to melt the shrink wrap. It may take a few tries but I'd definitely try this first before using a heat gun or steam.

    I know this is an old video, but wanted to add a tip I've picked up from other woodworkers that might help in horn removal. Rather than just heating the tip, try adding drips of white vinegar into and around the seams where the horn meets the wood. The acids in vinegar can help dissolve the protein bonds from any glue and soften the horn while preserving the wood.
